This month were feeling all the juice from the incredibly talented Lizzo
Like millions of girls around the world, Lizzo grew up inspired by the Spice Girls. A girl who loved putting on performances for her family, she’d recruit friends to join her girl groups and her her first ever group was with her best friend aptly titled Peace Love and Joy. Moving on from her younger groups, she started rapping as a teenager in Huston, Texas, where she grew up as a child. When she was 14, she formed a group called Cornrow Clique with her best friends and drove that into her formative years, founding indie hip hop groups The Chalice, Grrrl Prty, The Clerb, Ellypseas, and Absynthe.
She released her debut album Lizzobangers in 2013 and followed the release with a tour of the US and UK. On the back of that success and hype, Time named her one of 14 artists to watch in 2014. Prince was a fan of her work and that same year he asked her to sing on his Plectrumelectrum album, something she has since described as a fairytale. She followed her debut with Big Grrrl Small World in 2015 featuring hit single "Good as Hell", one of those tunes you just couldn't get our of your head (also found on our April 17 Mix Tape). she released her first major label EP in 2016, Coconut Oil, and then took some time after that to tour.
2018 saw her tour with Haim and Florence and The Machine and in 2019 she released her single "Juice" followed by her third studio album Cuz I Love You.
Lizzo has openly discussed her struggle with body images from an early age and has become an advocate for body positivity and self love. All her back up dancers are women of different race and size and it's so refreshing to see on stage. While her music is a platform for diversity, sexuality, one's body and race, her instagram is a beautiful gallery of images from shows and home life with her looking and feeling great in outfits to die for. Sometimes even nothing at all. We're all for it and can't get enough of what this amazing woman is doing.
