This October our Brand of the Month Rouje comes from model, singer, It girl and all round style icon, Jeanne Damas.
Damas’s très chic Parisian brand reinterprets iconic Parisian basics: Camisoles, mini-skirts, flared jeans and floral dresses with a nod to brands - Isabel Marant, Maje and Sandro. The It girl–turned-designer concept isn’t a new thing, but what makes Rouje different is the subtle down to earth clothes in beautiful fabrics that are more affordable than its French comraderies. And there’s a surprising California element to the label too - think cute tea dresses in paisley prints or wide leg denim worn with vintage-inspired sunglasses.
Jeanne sees Rouje as a collective; for her, it is the occasion to bring talented professionals together with her friends (Photographers, Stylists, Artistic Directors and Models). She also views her brand as a tribute to every woman who has inspired her. "I’ve always been surrounded by women with strong personalities and who are very feminine; my mother, my sister, my aunts, my friends. I am fascinated by their looks – It could be simple details as a gait, a way of speaking, a gesture, a manner to wear clothes." Damas also references Isabelle Adjani in One Deadly Summer and her mother as inspiration to Vogue—“My mother has always been very feminine, always in high-heeled shoes”—but she also finds inspiration in friends and the women she sees on the streets of Paris. “I love watching other women when I’m sitting at a café,” she says. “French girls are very simple—they don’t try too much.”
The brand is currently only available online if you are not lucky to attend the odd pop up. Shipping is a little high, but we think it’s well worth it. You can find Rouje here to shop and become a part of #lesfillesenrouje club yourself. www.rouje.com @rouje All images from the Rouge website
