Hong Kong may not be covered in snow but one obvious factor that Christmas is looming is my fully booked calendar! deTour 2017 Creative Festival

Luxury meets sustainability in Luxarity’s Made in Love fashion pop-up

LOCATION: St Francis Street, Wan Chai

WHEN: Ends Saturday 2nd December

Sustainability seems to be the word of the year. This time around it’s a sustainability-focused pop-up shop “Made In Love” – selling a curated collection of cut-price luxury fashion clothes donated by the community to fund fashion design graduates – visit asap as it ends its two-week Hong Kong stay this Saturday. The pop-up at is also offering four stunning designer capsule collections of 100 limited-edition items. These collections have been created using upcycled textiles by young Hong Kong designers, Loom Loop, Cynthia & Xiao, Ffixxed Studios and Yeung Chin. The social venture behind the pop-up, LUXARITY – formed by international fashion industry experts, textile and garment makers, schools, universities and other organisations – aims to sell vintage luxury goods and upcycled capsule collections to help build a community that is focused on sustainability and innovation.

The Weight of Lightness

We have got another year until Hong Kong’s leading art museum M+ opens officially. But the curation team has been working hard to bring another exciting exhibition this month at the M+ Pavillion. Presenting an impressive collection of ink art between the 1960s and present day, discover the various practices and concepts of ink art and how traditional ink art has evolved based on influences from the artist’s environments, personal experiences and culture. Showcasing the works of 42 international artists, explore the vast spectrum of this often under appreciated medium. Take a stroll around the park afterward and view how much the space has changed since your last visit - most probably during the Clockenflap days on Kowloon.

Cheung Chau Wave Art Festival

LOCATION: Cheung Chau Fisheries Association School, Tung Wan Road, Cheung Chau

WHEN: Whole weekend 1st – 2nd December

Cheung Chau is hosting a weekend-long art and culture showcasing a wide range of artworks by Island-based artists. Hop on a ferry and head over to Cheung Chau for a weekend-long art festival! Taking place all over the outlying island, discover a wide range of art across different mediums including photography, painting and street performance, within the theme of life by water. Delving into issues from island and water ecology, to fishing culture, plastic contaminated oceans and human births. Works from local and Cheung Chau-based artists. Prices range from $80-$160.

Taschen Bookstore, Pops Up!

LOCATION: Duddell’s, 3/F, Shanghai Tang Mansion, 1 Duddell Street, Central District, Hong Kong

WHEN: All December

For one month, TASCHEN, the leading art book publisher known for its dazzling and audacious world of eye-catching coffee table books will take over and transform ‘The Chamber’ into a beautiful bookstore. The Living Room by HULA

LOCATION: KONG Art Space, 3 Staunton St, Central, HK

WHEN: November 28th - December 3rd

After hosting a string of private events on the upper level, The Living Room by HULA will move to the ground level for the last two days of their sale (Dec 2 & 3) for public attendance. On the ground level, a campaign exhibition by writer and sustainable fashion advocate Gloria Yu titled 'Choose Well' will be showcased. The work pays homage to the phrase first coined by designer Vivienne Westwood ‘Buy less, choose well, make it last’, honouring legacy designer houses and the importance of prioritising clothing quality over quantity in this day and age of fast consumerism. It is conceptualised, shot by and modelled by Yu. All their charity donations during this event will benefit REDRESS.

Damien Hirst's "Visual Candy and Natural History" Exhibition

LOCATION: Gagosian Gallery Hong Kong, 7/F Pedder Building, 12 Pedder Street, Central, Hong Kong

WHEN: Saturday 2nd December until January 13, 2018

Damien Hirst's "Visual Candy and Natural History" Exhibition Opens in Hong Kong this Saturday. Since his debut in Hong Kong, six years ago, he’s back. Focused and funny with his pickled sharks, also pickled calves, pickled sheep, a pickled dove and a pickled oven-ready turkey. On top of that there’s a cow’s head laying in a puddle of fly-blown blood which adds to the show’s shock value. There’s also a series of wildly exuberant paintings collectively called Visual Candy. Gagosian Gallery is showcasing a selection of paintings and sculptures by renowned artist Damien Hirst from the early to mid-1990s. Having famously dealt with topics and complex relationships between art, beauty, religion, science, life and death, this collection features paintings that allude to movements such as Impressionism, Abstract Expressionism, and Pop Art. Damien Hirst’s “Visual Candy and Natural History” will be on display at the Gagosian in Hong Kong until January 13, 2018.

Fauve Radio Opening

The rumours are true, a new funky radio station is opening in Hong Kong! Fauve Radio proudly invites you to the grand opening day which will be taking place in its new home, Mahka 1pm – 10.30pm. For this special day, they have prepared a very special schedule of exhibition and live painting session by artist Philippine Vidart aka Finu, projection and light show by in-house audio-visual artist Yunus, makeover sessions offered by Emmanuel F hair salon & spa and art and dance performances throughout the heat of the day and moon howling sessions at night. Live streams of some of the best selectors of Hong Kong which will carry on throughout the whole week, every day, until 10th of December. The first free issue of the "Fauzine", the radio's personal zine to tell you everything about music, art, venues and other silly quacks happening around town will be available. Expect a packed line-up of panels, including architects Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksasand, Olympic designer Mario Balich and Mitja Borkert, head designer of Lamborghini, and other exciting guests. Prepare to be inspired! However also prepare yourself for the hefty entrance fee ranging from $1,000 to $4,000.

Daphné Mandel: Hong Kong Vanitas [Still Life Comes to Life]
